What it does
This skill performs outlier detection and packaging pattern extraction across a set of YouTube channels. The core metric is not absolute views but the multiplier: how many times a video outperformed its own channel's average/median. If a channel normally gets 20,000 views and one video gets 180,000, that is a 9x outlier — far more instructive than the raw number. The threshold is 2x: anything above it is worth studying. 3-5x is strong, 10x+ deserves deep analysis.
The skill extracts common words from outlier titles to surface proven packaging formats (long-form and Shorts skeletons such as "X, Clearly Explained", "Give me X minutes and I'll Y", "Stop doing X, do Y instead"), measures cadence (videos per week), and audits title/thumbnail match.
When to use
- To see what is exploding on competitor channels and why
- To find evidence-based title/thumbnail/format inspiration for a new video
- To reverse-engineer specific creators' viral patterns
- To validate your own packaging candidate against competitor outliers before publishing and your own analytics after
Method / frameworks
- Outlier multiplier method: video views / channel average; 2x threshold, ranked by multiplier.
- Quality CTR validation: the 2026 algorithm weighs the first 30 seconds after the click; good CTR is ~4-6% (search 8-15%, browse 3-7%), retention 50%+ for sub-10-min videos and 40%+ for long-form.
- Channel Analytics Feedback Loop: pre-publish baseline (topic, title pattern, thumbnail, length, day/time) → post-publish readback (24-48h CTR/early retention, 7d AVD/watch time, 28d topic durability + subscriber gain) → update formulas only if the candidate wins.
- Packaging Skeletons: a library of proven title templates for long-form and Shorts.
- Cadence analysis: high-cadence creators may have lower per-video averages; the multiplier is interpreted in that context.
