What it does
Audits your signup/registration flow like a CRO specialist and produces a ready-to-ship redesign across three layers:
-
Field-by-field friction audit. For every field it applies the test: "do we truly need this before they can use the product, can we collect it later via progressive profiling, can we infer it?" Typical priority: essential = email + password; usually deferrable = company, role, team size, phone, address.
-
Flow architecture decision. Single-step vs multi-step (multi-step above 3-4 fields or for B2B segmentation), social-auth placement (B2C: Google/Apple/Facebook; B2B: Google/Microsoft/SSO), the progressive-commitment pattern (email first → password+name → optional customization), and whether to delay email verification or offer magic-link.
-
Microcopy + trust layer. Labels, placeholders (for examples, not as labels), error messages and CTA copy; "no credit card required", privacy assurance, social-proof placement; 44px+ touch targets and correct keyboard types for mobile.
The output is High/Medium/Low prioritized audit findings, an action plan grouped into quick wins / week-level changes / A-B test hypotheses, and on request a redesigned form with per-field rationale.
When to use it
When signup completion is low, "nobody finishes registration", "too many steps", trial conversion is weak, when designing a new signup flow, or preparing an existing one for A/B testing. Pairs with onboarding (post-signup), cro (lead-capture/contact forms) and ab-testing.
Method / frameworks
Core principles: Minimize Required Fields, Show Value Before Commitment (value-first/signup-second), Reduce Perceived Effort (progress, smart defaults, pre-fill) and Remove Uncertainty. Field decisions are grounded in industry benchmarks: cutting fields from 11 to 4 can lift conversion ~160%; multi-step forms convert ~14% higher than equivalent single-page forms; adding Google sign-in shows 8% to 100%+ uplift across cases; social-proof placement reports 10–30% registration gains. Measurement framework: form start rate, completion rate, field-level drop-off, time-to-complete, error rate, and mobile/desktop split.
