About the skill

What it does

Designs every kind of interrupt-style conversion element — popups, modals, slide-ins, banners — to convert without annoying users or damaging brand perception. The output is not an empty template: for each popup it produces an actionable design spec with type, trigger, targeting, frequency, full copy (headline + subhead + CTA + decline text), and mobile/desktop design notes. For multi-popup scenarios it adds conflict rules so popups don't overlap, plus A/B test hypotheses with expected outcomes.

The method rests on three core principles: timing is everything (too early = annoying interruption, right time = helpful offer at the moment of need), value must be obvious (relevant to page context, worth the interruption), and respect the user (easy dismiss, no traps, remembered preferences). Triggers are chosen by proven patterns: scroll 25-50% (content engagement), exit-intent (last chance), click-trigger (zero annoyance, highest conversion), page-count and behavior-based.

When to use

  • Growing an email/newsletter list, delivering a lead magnet, or offering a first-purchase discount.
  • When an existing popup converts poorly or draws complaints (instant dismiss, "annoying").
  • Capturing exiting traffic at the last moment with exit-intent.
  • Running a site-wide announcement/banner campaign (time-limited, dismissable).
  • Coordinating multiple popups without overlap and building an A/B test plan.

Method / frameworks

  • 3 Core Principles: Timing · Obvious Value · Respect the User.
  • Trigger strategy: time-based (30-60s), scroll (25-50%), exit-intent, click-triggered, page-count/session, behavior-based (cart abandon, pricing page).
  • Popup typology: Email Capture · Lead Magnet · Discount/Promotion · Exit Intent · Announcement Banner · Slide-In.
  • Copy formulas: Benefit/Question/Command/Social-proof/Curiosity headlines; first-person, specific CTAs; polite decline options.
  • Frequency & rules: once per session, dismissal memory, 7-30 day cool-down, exclude converted users.
  • Compliance: GDPR consent language, accessibility (keyboard, focus-trap, Esc, contrast), Google intrusive-interstitial rules.
  • Benchmark calibration: email 2-5%, exit-intent 3-10%, click-trigger 10%+.

How do I use this skill?

You don't "run" a skill — after installing it you just tell the agent your task (e.g. ask for the relevant job), and the skill kicks in by itself when its description matches.

Upload the popups.zip you downloaded as-is — no packaging needed, the format is already correct (folder at root).

  1. Open Settings → Customize → Skills
  2. Upload → select the popups.zip you downloaded
  3. Claude reads SKILL.md; the name + description appear. Ready ✅
