What it does
It takes a product/brand context and produces an end-to-end community strategy with community-led growth logic. The output is always a concrete, act-on-it-today document — never generic advice like "be consistent, provide value."
The core principle is shared identity: the strongest communities are built around who members are or aspire to be, not around your product (indie hackers, r/homelab, Figma community). The skill always answers "what identity does this community reinforce?" and enforces that value flows to members first (exclusive knowledge, peer connections, status/recognition, influence on the roadmap, career visibility).
The second backbone is the Community Flywheel: members join → get value → engage → create content/help others → new members discover. Every decision is judged on whether it accelerates or slows the loop.
When to use it
- Launching a Discord/Slack/Circle community from zero (founding-member recruiting, culture definition, seeded conversations).
- Growing an existing community with drop-off (leaky-stage diagnosis, new-member journey, power-user investment).
- Building a brand ambassador / advocate program (criteria, benefits, 1:1 outreach, measurement).
- Standing up community-led support (deflection) and retention.
Method / frameworks
- Community Flywheel — compounding growth loop, designed from day one.
- Shared-identity principle — built around belonging, not the product.
- 90-9-1 participation rule — 90% lurkers / 9% occasional / 1% power users; "1% of members generate 90% of value" investment logic.
- Goal-based playbooks — Launch-from-zero, Grow-existing, Ambassador program, Community-led support.
- Platform Selection Guide — Discord/Slack/Circle/Reddit/FB Groups/Discourse "best for / watch out for" table.
- Community Health Metrics — DAU/MAU (>20% healthy), new-member post rate, thread reply rate, churn/lurker ratio, non-staff content share, plus early-warning signals.
